Abstract

The problems associated with old age and the care of elderly are not the problems of social, cultural and economic ramifications only; they have health and medical problems also that affect the life of a community or of a nation. In Varanasi city, health status of elderly population is in worse situation. They face several health related problems. One of the striking observations is that although the process of development and modernization has accelerated in Varanasi city and the health facilities have increased, there is no substantial change in health condition of the aged people. Ill health, low income, loneliness and inadequate accommodation are the facets of their lives’. An attempt is made in this research paper to assess their felt health condition and needs in order to set priorities amongst them which are needed for the formulation of appropriate action plan.
