Venture capital investment has been growing increasingly in developing countries. India is one of the alluring countries for such investments. This paper explains the recent trends of venture capital financing activities in India, like, sources of investments and distribution of investments across industries, sectors and regions between 1998–2012. Initially we present a detailed overview about the functionality of venture capital industry, how it originated in United States and came to India over the years, and later explain about the regulatory framework followed by Indian venture capital industry.
