Urbanization, socio-economic development and industrialization are interlinked to each other. North 24 Parganas district is highly urbanized district of West Bengal. Urbanization in terms of urban population, urban spacing, urban centers and infrastructural development are quite satisfactory compared to West Bengal as well as India. This paper analyzes an overview of urbanization in the district since the period of independence. The urban areas like, outgrowth, census town, cantonment board, municipality are discussed.
