The paper is an attempt to analyze the educational development through literacy and occupational structure and examine the association between literacy and occupational groups in all the districts of West Bengal. This study is based on district level secondary data obtained from the Census of India 2001, publications and other unpublished sources. Apart from this, relevant non-demographic data have been obtained from the publications of the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India, New Delhi. In the present analysis suitable statistical techniques Z-score and composite score have been used.
