Abstract

Santiniketan, the cultural heritage and educational centre attracts tourist from different parts of the state, country and from abroad. The provision of both qualitative and quantitative tourism infrastructural facilities in accordance with increasing demand of tourist reflects healthy status of tourism. The increasing demand of tourist and uncontrolled tourism activities invited several problems related to environment and the development of tourism in Santiniketan. To find out the qualitative status of tourism, the study of tourist satisfaction from pre-visit expectation was conducted based on the collected primary data of 45 sample tourists. The study is based on the tourist attractions in Santiniketan i.e. tourist spots and festivals and tourist infrastructural facilities provided therein. The appropriate statistical techniques such as weighted arithmetic mean deviation and Chi-square for hypothesis test are applied to find out the satisfactory attributes of tourism in Santiniketan.
