Associate Professor,
Child labor has become a pervasive scenario in informal sectors particularly in shrimp processing industries prevalent in south-western region of Bangladesh. Due to increasing threat and challenges of climate variability, the vulnerable children face immense problem in coastal belt. According to World Bank, 2015, Child labor is of great concern in many parts of the world, particularly in developing countries and it is estimated that there are more than 215 million child labors persistent globally. The study is an attempt to understand and assess how the vulnerable working children in fish processing activities take challenges for their livelihood in susceptible situation. Methods of research mainly based on primary survey; it includes field interview, content analysis, focus group discussions and case studies. The study depicts existence of poverty pocket in these case areas. A slow onset disaster increased frequency and unpredictability year after year. This situation makes vulnerability and constrainments for the children at the workplace. The study is expected to find a real-time solution with empirical views, in considering the social, technical, and governance aspects to enhance resilience of people in shrimp processing industry. A comprehensive child sensitive action plan can be taken with the help of regional and international cooperation with positivity in considering the real field situation.
