Abstract

The present research work makes an attempt to examine the inter district disparities in the levels of socio-economic and demographic development based on thirty three selected variables in West Bengal. The work is dependent on secondary data in the census year 2011. The level of development is examined separately for social, economic and demographic and overall socio economic development. The district of North 24 Parganas (Indices 146.98) was ranked frst and the district of Uttar Dinajpur (Indices 81.90) ranks last in the level of overall socio-economic and demographic development in the state. The wide disparities have been observed in the level of development among different districts of the state.
