Socio-Economic and Environmental Impact of Electricity Generation Using Gliricidia Sepium: A Case of Silver Mills Power Plant in Mirigama

The study focused; to examine the socio economic impact to the cultivators and suppliers of the Gliricidia crop, to examine the environmental impacts of Gliricidia electricity generation process and to identify the problems faced by the cultivators, supplies and the management and to suggest the suitable solutions for the identified constrains and issues. Using the purposive sampling method, 25 farmers and 50 suppliers were selected considering the supply chains of the Gliricidia to the power plant located in Mirigama DSD. The data collection is based on the response of the questionnaire, which has been distributed among the farmers and suppliers and the case studies undertaken.
