India generates 72, 34, 259 MT of hazardous wastes per annum. Hazardous wastes are considered very harmful to man and environment. The consequences of improper handling and management of hazardous wastes can be disastrous to nation's environment and to the health of its citizens. In order to control and mitigate the problems of hazardous wastes and to protect the human environment, the government of India has enacted Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Rules, 2016.
