Abstract

Present paper focus on the crime against women in Nanded city. Crimeagainst women has currently become a big issue and it can't be ignored anymore becausewomen are part of our country and they represent half the population of our country. There is a different kind of crime against women and women can be victims of this crime at any place like home, public place and workplace. Increasing crime and cruelty against women is not only a topic of serious anxiety, but also a topic of deeper contemplation. Crime and criminalities arerelated with urban environment. According to the National Crime Records Bureau of India (NCRB), reported total incidents of crime against women have 338954 (crime rate is 55.2 per one lakh of population)and in Maharashtra reported incidents of crime against women have 31388 (crime rate is 54.6 per one lakh of population) during 2016.

In the present study five crimes are selected i.e. Rape, Dowry Death, Kidnapping &Abduction, Molestation, Dowry or Cruelty by Husband or His Relatives for Dowry etc. Analysis includes the number of registered cases at each police station from the year 2013 to 2017are respectively 175(2013), 116 (2014), 142 (2015), 158(2016) and 164(2017). The collected data has been analyzed by using different quantitative, statistical techniques and computer based software. Google Earth application was also used to identify the crime hotspots in the Nanded city.
