Growth of literature on Liver Diseases (1993–2013)

Abstract

This paper presents a bibliometric analysis of the growth of literature output in the field of Liver Diseases covered in the bibliographic database namely MEDLINE which are covered in the Pubmed. The literature covered in the database for the period 1993–2013 was considered. MEDLINE covered the maximum of 316168 records during the study period. It was found that 43.44% were journal articles, 26.96% were Research Support, Non-U.S. Gov't, 14.75% were Review and 4.67% were Letters. United States has contributed the highest number of records in the study. Next major contribution belongs to England, China and Germany. India has the 15th position among the countries. Relative Growth Rate (RGR) has been decreasing from 1993 (0.71) to 2013 (0.06) except few years. On the other hand, the Doubling Time (Dt) has shown an increasing trend except few years throughout the study period. RGR and Dt for Indian output has shown fluctuation trends. RGR and Dt for journal articles is a decreasing and an increasing trend except few years
