This study was an attempt to explore the feasibility of using social networking sites for academic purposes based on the opinion of faculty and research scholars of various science and technology departments in Pondicherry University. The data were collected through questionnaire using simple random sampling from 22 faculty members and 76 research scholars of seven different departments. The result revealed that majority of the respondents was in favour of using social networking sites for academic purposes. Facebook and Research Gate were found to be very popular among the respondents. It was found that lack of time prevents the usage of SNS frequently.
