Pre and probiotic dietary package for better gut health and immunopotency of the adolescent girls in Erode town

Abstract

Pre and Probiotic foods like garlic, onion, whole grains and fermented products play a vital role in maintaining the healthy microbial environment of the gut and develops the overall health of the community. On this background the present UGC funded project aims to develop the immunopotency of 500 adolescent girls in Erode district. In phase I, mass deworming with Albendazole 500mg-Day 1, Day 15 and an interval period of 3 months once was undertaken to make the gut, worm infestation free. Followed by the Questionnaire and awareness sessions, pre and probiotic recepie for a period of six months in the daily dietary pattern of the subjects. In phase II, garlic, onion and greens as prebiotics and curd (probiotics like) alone as the main probiotics was introduced in the daily diet formulation of a simple, time and cost-effective, low cost locally available high probiotics active recipe was found to improve the overall health of the selected subjects. Statistical analysis (t test) of selected clinical, biochemical and nutritional parameters clearly indicated positive influence of the pre-probiotic dietary package on the immunopotency of the adolescent girls in Erode town.
