This paper presents the evolution of operations management right from the age of industrial revolution to the modern context and identifies various factors responsible for disruptive trends in this area. To meet the customer expectations, the organisations need to gear up to undergo operational transformation in terms of technology and workforce strategies.
Also, an attempt is made here to explain how operations have become more customer centric in terms of advising, fast and simpler end to end solutions, with particular reference to banking sector in the areas of tighter regulation, shifting client needs, the digital revolution and disintermediation.
