Primary health care policy in rural area

Health policy may be defined as an expression of goals for improving health situation the priorities among those goals and the general directions for achieving them. At the time of independence the country inherited a health system devised during the British rule essentially to provide services to armed forces and the colonial administrators including the native gentry. By and large the health system was urban-biased elite-biased and curative oriented and was not geared even to providing minimum health care services to rural people. The system suffered largely in terms of both adequacy of health institutions and facilities as well as health manpower.
