An analysis of LFPR, wpr and unemployment scenario in Meghalaya

The labor force participation rate is an important measure of employment opportunities that exist in the economy. It is an important measure of the health and labor supply of an economy. The paper attempts to analyze LFPR, WPR, and the Unemployment rate in Meghalaya with respect to both rural and urban areas as well as male and female. The paper also attempts to study the participation of different age group in labor force. Among the males and females, LFPR is high among the males as compared to females. Even at the all India level, the LFPR among the females is lower as compared to males. It is interesting to note that the female LFPR of Meghalaya is higher than the national level according to 2011 census. The overall Unemployment rate is low in rural areas as compared to urban areas. The unemployment rate is high among those who have completed matric/secondary but below graduate. Both the LFPR and WPR are higher in Meghalaya as compared to the all India level. The gender gap in Meghalaya is low as compared to the national level with regard to the participation in the labor force and workforce.
