Framing political news in print and television media: A review

Abstract

Framing means bias. Analysis of frames enlightens the way in which selective information is highlighted by the media and presented in a such way to influence human consciousness. In today's 24*7 news discourse, framing has taken its role to an enormously higher level. Undoubtedly, politics takes a predominant coverage in every news outlet. In such circumstances, political news stories are given a spin, a template, and is expected to understand the way the newsmakers intends to. The review of literature aims to understand framing of political news in print and television, the types of news frames used in addressing issues of importance, and the strategic methods associated by newsmakers while indulging in news framing. A brief chronicle of notable works done on political news frames in print and television, internationally and nationally, is presented in the review of literature.
