Determination of vibrating properties have been conducting on sand cast samples of the most widely used commercial Mg alloy AZ80. Vibration properties of the samples in both as casting and heat-treated (T4 and T6) situations were studied by measurements of the logarithmic decrement of free bending beam vibration at different frequencies. The best vibrating properties were found in the as-cast specimens. This is precisely related to the microstructure, which consists of an Mg, large formation of b-phase (Mg17 Al12), as wellas lamellar eutectoid Mg17 Al12 precipitating as a result of minimum cooling rate. For homogeneous and annealed specimens, the maximum hardness and vibrating capacity of the logarithmic decrement can be induced by using a model of A. Granato and K. Lucke.
