Abstract

In all, 216 breeding records of ewes on different wool quality traits, belonging to Gaddi, 1/2 Rambouillet X 1/2 Gaddi 3/4 Rambouillet X 1/4 Gaddi and 3/4 Merino X 1/4 Gaddi maintained at three sheep breeding farms, Tal (Hamirpur), sarol (Chamba) and Jeori (Shimla) in Himachal Pradesh (India) were analysed by least squares technique for the effect of genetic groups and years of birth. Almost all the traits were affected significantly (P<0.01). Crossbred ewes of 3/4 Merino and 1/4 Gaddi were better than Gaddi and its crosses with Rambouillet. A high heritability of wool characters indicates scope for improvement in these traits through intensive selection.
