Abstract

The major limitation for adoption of embryo transfer technology (ETT) in sheep in the field is the involvement of surgery. To avoid major surgical procedures in ETT, a laparoscope aided embryo transfer procedure using a modified aspic has been standaridised. The technique was successfully adopted to transfer embryos into recepient ewes. A specially designed cradle has been fabricated for rapid and easy restraining of ewes for laparoscopy. This cradle allowed to restrain ewes and adjust the angle of cradle for head down position. Two abdominal punctures were made using 7 mm dia trocar, app. 5–7 cm anterior to udder under aseptic condition and a laparoscope was introduced. A modified pair of all is forceps with jaws adopted for gentle grasping of uterine horn was fabricated. Uterine horn was held with the forcep and gently lifted through puncture site to expose a small loop. The embryos were loaded in modified aspic and transferred into the horn. In our first trial, 50%. Lambing was achieved on transfer of embryo using this technique.
