Data on first lactation reproduction traits of dairy goats housed in sheds under stall fed conditions and maintained from 1978 to 1997 at National Dairy Research Institute were analysed to study the effect of various genetic and non-genetic factors on early reproduction performance. The overall least squares means for weight at birth (BW), age at maturity/age at first service (AFS), age at first conception (AFC), age at first kidding (AFK), gestation length (GL), litter size at birth (LSB), litter weight (kg) at birth (LWB) and number of services per conception (NOSC) were 3.33 ± 0.04 kg, 457.71 ± 6.31days, 487.13 ± 6.87 days, 642.91 ± 6.98 days, 150.68 ± 0.04 days, 1.23 ± 0.02, 3.90 ± 0.06 kg and 1.30 ± 0.03, respectively. Age at first service and litter size at birth were significantly affected by genetic group (P < 0.05). Season significantly (P < 0.01) influenced BW, GL and LWB. The period of birth had significant (P < 0.01) influence on all the reproductive traits.
