Abstract

The study was conducted to find out the incidence of entropion in different breeds of sheep and to correct it by a simple technique. The incidence of entropion was found to be highest in Corriedale (8.71%), followed by Pooled Dorset X Corriedale (1.24%) and Pooled Dorset (1.04%) while no entropic lamb was found in South down breed. Use of entropion free rams for breeding reduced the incidence of entropion in new born lambs from its initial figure of 13% in 2003 to 2.55% in 2004. The lower eyelid involvement was more common than upper eyelid involvement. A simple technique was tried to correct entropion. A fold of skin on the affected lid was removed using a crush and cut approach after applying local anesthesia. No suture was applied during the operation. The bloodless surgery corrected the defect without an open wound and healing occurred within 5–6 days and the affected eyelid functioned normally.
