Abstract

The data of Marwari lambs were analysed to study the effect of various factors on first six monthly greasy fleece weight, fibre diameter and fibre types. The overall least squares means were 543.20±14.28 g, 32.53±0.38 μm, 40.39±0.72, 39.33±0.67 and 23.06±0.42 per cent, respectively for greasy fleece weight (1st clip), fibre diameter, percent pure fibres, medullated fibres and hetero type fibres. The year of birth significantly affected the wool traits while sex of lamb did not affect the fleece quality traits. Per cent pure fibres were more in older lambs at time of sampling. The estimates of heritability for greasy fleece weight (1st clip), fibre diameter and per cent pure and hetero type fibres were 0.162±0.117, 0.216±0.123, 0.023±0.099 and 0.027±0.099, respectively. The selection may be practiced for greasy fleece weight giving negative weightage to medullation percentage using appropriate selection method.
