The study was carried out to analyse the factors associated with the pricing of male goats (N= 304) transacted in the four animal markets of Nadia and Hooghly districts of Central Alluvial Plains of West Bengal. The study was carried out during 2001–02 taking a sample of 120 sellers and 120 buyers. Multiple linear regression analysis was employed to fulfil the objective. The study revealed that age, body weight, general appearance, breed, castration and season were the significant contributory factors influencing the market price of a male goats. Among these factors body weight, general appearance, winter season and castration were found to be positive and age, Black Bengal breed were negative factors influencing the market price of male goat. The study suggests that the goat rearers should dispose-off their castrated stock at a younger age. They can also avail the price advantage by selling them in the winter months.
