Abstract

The role of rural women and children in the traditional goat production activities was investigated in tribal and under developed villages in Mewar region of Rajasthan. Aspects studied were nature and extent of involvement of rural men, women and children in goat husbandry in terms of operations. The study revealed that children of goat farmers were not largely involved in strenuous activity of goat rearing. The women of goat farmer's family, in addition to their routine household duties also contributed in goat husbandry activities. Men look at the goat as an additional source of income, without much investment. The paper highlights the need for providing special training and extension programmes to the younger generation, which can go long way in making goat rearing as a tool for rural employment.
