Abstract

The histoarchitecture of excretory portion of metanephros was studied in forty goat foeti of either sex at different stages of gestation. Differentiating arched collecting tubules were observed at 58 days of gestation. These were lined by simple cuboidal epithelium, which changed to low columnar type in Group II (61 – 90 days). Straight collecting tubules were first noticed at 56 days of gestation in medullary rays lined by simple cuboidal epithelium. The papillary duct contained tall columnar epithelium with nuclei situated towards the lumen in Group I (31 – 60 days) and in the apical region from Group II (61 – 90 days) onwards. The epithelium of renal pelvis showed out pocketing from Group II (61 – 90 days) onwards.
