Abstract

The data were collected from 360 goat rearers selected from 24 villages of 8 Tehsils of 4 districts of Mewar region of Southern Rajasthan. The goat rearers were selected randomly from each holdings and districts. The information was collected from respondents on adoption of breeding practices of goat husbandry by an appropriate schedule. The effect of flock size on breeding buck, selection of breeding buck and castration of male kids was highly significant whereas, association with rest of the breeding practices was non-significant. The most common symptoms observed by goat rearers for heat detection were bellowing and tail vibration. The age at first mating was 16.05 months. Only natural service was used for breeding due to non-availability of artificial insemination services in goats. It was observed that 62.25% goat rearers did not possess their own breeding buck. Maximum respondents (64.70%) reported heat during rainy season. The average number of breedable goats per buck was observed to be 43.06.
