Abstract

The objective of the present study was to investigate the effect of housing on performance of native sheep during summer season. Twenty adult Marwari and Patanwadi ewes were randomly divided into 4 equal groups and housed under covered areas namely, T1: Asbestos sheet roofed house; T2: Agro-net; T3: under the trees shade and T4: under open. The animals kept under T1 treatment maintained higher body weight throughout the experiment compared to T2 and T3 treatment groups while it was lowest in T4 treatment group. The dry matter intake of T1 and T4 animals was at par but differed significantly (P<0.05) from T2 and T3. The water intake of T2 and T4 animals did not differ significantly (P<0.05) but differed from T1 and T3.
