Clinical and surgical management of urethral obstruction in male goats

Abstract

A total of 18 clinical cases of urethral obstruction were used for surgical management. Most of the animals were less than one year of age. Three animals had partial obstruction for about one week before complete blockage of urethra. The bran was the main constituent of diet. All the animals were castrated at the age of less than one month. Most of the animals showed dehydration and sunken eyeball and were dull, depressed and restless. The main site of calculi was at urethral process. The calculi were soft in nature and covered entire length of urethra. Two animals showed the displacement of catheter after 72 and 96 hrs. Two animals died within 15 days of treatment.
