Abstract

Hypothyroidism in sheep was experimentally induced by feeding thiourea to each ram (@ 50 mg/kg body weight). Hypothyroidism resulted in a highly significant (p< 0.01) decrease in plasma T3 and increase in plasma TSH. It is concluded from the present study that induced hypothyroidism in sheep appreciably alters the thyroid hormonal parameters and thiourea can be effectively used to induce and study hypothyroidism experimentally.
