Abstract

The data on body weight of 1298 Corriedale sheep spread over a period of 9 years (1995–2003) representing 19 stages of life (from birth to 1 year of age) were collected from the farm of the Sheep Research Station. The overall birth, weaning and one year weight was found to be 3.60±0.02, 11.58±0.07 and 20.58±0.17 kg, respectively. Heritability of each trait was estimated by advanced animal model (DFREML) technique after adjusting for the non-genetic factors. The heritability estimates of the traits were found as 0.390±0.0852, 0.163±0.0795 and 0.094±0.0413, respectively. The analysis showed that there is much scope of improvement of heritability by efficient management practices.
