Abstract

The data of the present study were collected on Sirohi kids for 5 years (2003–2007) from the adopted villages. The least squares means were 2.35±0.04, 12.80±0.19, 16.31±0.21, 19.34±0.25 and 23.27±0.36 kg at birth, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months of age, respectively. The kids born in winter had higher birth weight compared to other seasons. Male and single were significantly heavier than female and multiple birth kids. The heritability of body weight at different age was found to be moderate. The genetic correlation of birth weight with body weight at 12 months age was low and positive, while it was low and negative with 3, 6, and 9 month of body weight. The genetic correlation among 3, 6, 9 and 12 months was high and positive. The phenotypic correlation coefficients of birth with 3, 6, 9 and 12 months of body weight were low and positive.
