Abstract

The aim of the present study was to identity management factors influencing mortality of Boer crossbred kids due to infection with GI strongyles in a semi-intensive system. The probability of death due to GI infection was more than 3 times greater in males than in females. Kids raised by their mother before weaning had a lower relative risk of death than those reared in nursery. Parity of the dam and litter size effects was not significant. Live weight, fecal egg count and packed cell volume had significant effect on the risk of death. The results demonstrated that risk of death from GI parasites could be reduced with appropriate flock management.
