Abstract

A survey was conducted on health and reproductive practices of Sonadi sheep followed by farmers in three major districts and one minor district in the breeding tract by using the modern sampling technique. There was unequal distribution of respondents across different health care practices followed within districts. The proportion of farmers following vaccination was low but the proportion was higher in Rajsamand and Bhilwara districts as compared to Udaipur district. A total of 55.33% farmers practiced deworming, which was highest in Bhilwara district followed by Udaipur, Chittorgarh and Rajsamand districts. The practice of purchasing breeding ram was higher in Chittorgarh compared to other districts. All the males were disposed off up to 10 months of age except males that were kept for breeding purpose. The age at first lambing was significantly lower at Chittorgarh as compared to other districts.
