The spleens were collected from local abattoir at Supela, Bhilai (Chhattisgarh) immediately after slaughter. The spleen was rectangular and bluish red. The mean weight of spleen was 47.0±2.0 g. The mean length and width were 10.30±0.21 and 7.90±0.15 cm, respectively. The capsule was covered by thick connective tissue. Splenic parenchyma composed of red (90%) and white pulp (10%). Splenic cord consisted of network of fibres enmeshed with erythrocytes, lymphocytes and other leukocytes. White pulp consisted of lymphatic nodules and periarterial lymphatic sheath (PALS). Lymphatic nodules consisted of lighter germinal centre and darker peripheral area. The mean thickness of the splenic capsule was 251.44±12.56 μm and the diameter of white pulp was 0.35±0.03 mm. Numbers of white pulp were 1.98±0.69 per mm2. The capsule was thick and divided into outer and inner layers.
