Abstract

Growth performance of 12 Osmanabadi kids was studied. Kids were divided into two groups of six each as Gr-I maintained under house having asbestos roof and slatted floor and Gr-II maintained under house having shed net as roofing material and kaccha floor. Body weight of kids was recorded at weekly intervals from birth till four months of age in both housing systems. There was a highly significant (P<0.01) effect of housing on weekly body weight gain of kids. Higher growth rate was recorded in kids of house having shed net as roofing material than kids of house having asbestos roof and slatted floor. The housing of kids significantly affected the fodder and water intake and it was significantly higher in kids of Gr-II compared to Gr-I kids. The study concludes that kids housed under loose housing showed faster growth rate.
