Abstract

The present study was conducted in purposefully selected five villages of Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu to assess the training needs of small ruminant farmers. Thirty respondents from each village were selected randomly and data were collected by structured interview schedule on 16 different aspects under four main subject areas, viz., breeding, nutrition, health and other management. The result revealed that nutritional aspect was the most important area of training need followed by health, breeding and other management aspects. The specific sub area i.e. importance of mineral mixture in feed, colostrum feeding, Azolla feeding etc., had top priority for training in the nutritional aspect since the respondents are not aware about these technologies.
