Abstract

During the year 1988 and 1989, the sown pasture produced maximum biomass. But in the subsequent years, the three tier system gave the higher tonnege over the sown pasture. The lowest forage was recieved in the natural system. All the tree species of the three tier system were destroyed by the animals in the first year of grazing. Bajra crop gave the highest net return in all the years of experiment except 1988 in which guar gave highest net return per hectare. The income received from kids, lambs, wool, meat and milk was not included in the net return of pasture system. Otherwise these systems may be more profitable than bajra and guar. The minimum soil loss through water run-off was recorded in three tier system. It was due to more binding capacity of grasses aver field crops.
