Abstract

The question of anthelmintic combinations is a very complex issue and requires careful analysis before “recommendations” are made and those recommendations will need to be specific for the drug classes involved as well as for the host and parasite species. Also we should not forget that in the European Union, the registration authorities are not in favour of mixtures. Therefore, intense and fruitful arguments are necessary before accepting anthelmintic combinations. Before recommending or rejecting the use of combinations it is important to consider the large differences in the occurrence of anthelmintic resistance and a variety of other factors. For certain hosts, parasites and regions combination may be a good recommendation and not for other regions. For generalized recommendation of using combination formulation might boomerang again and in the recent past, we have the experience to face such a humiliation.
