Abstract

Data on morphometrics and performance of 551 Assam local goats at birth to 12 months of age were collected through a survey, conducted in two districts of Assam viz. Lakhimpur and Sonitpur using a structured questionnaire. Body weight, chest girth and height at withers of Assam local goats significantly (P<0.01) differed with age, colour, sex and location. Body length significantly (P<0.01) differed with age, colour and sex but location had no influence. Ear length and tail length significantly (P<0.01) differed with age, sex and location but colour had no significance on ear and tail length. Horn length significantly (P<0.01) differed with age and sex of the animal having no influence of colour and location. White coloured goats were superior in terms of body weight and body measurements than the other colours.
