Abstract

Goat pox virus (GPV) was isolated from an outbreak of goat pox in Durg district of Chhattisgarh using 10 day old embryonated chicken eggs. Goat pox virus was primarily identified based on characteristic pock lesions and histopathology of chorioallantoic membrane. Agar gel immuno-diffusion and countercurrent immuno-electrophoresis tests were used to confirm the virus. The study indicated re-emergence of goat pox in adjacent geographic area and hence characterization of local GPV field strain carries unique practical significance.
