Abstract

Jakhrana breed is one of the best milch breeds of India and found in Alwar district of Rajasthan. Selective breeding was adopted for improvement in milk production of Jakhrana goats at Central Institute for Research on Goats, Makhdoom. Milk yield of does was recorded during morning and evening at weekly intervals to estimate the milk production) for 30, 60, 90, 120, and 150 days and the overall means were 34.13, 67.35, 92.70, 121.69 and 144.56 litres respectively. Data were analyzed to study the effect of year, season of kidding and type of birth on milk production. Year of kidding significantly (P<0.01) affected the milk production of 30, 60, 90, 120 and 150 days. Milk production in season-I was higher than season-II for 30, 60 and 90 days; however, milk production in season-I was lower than season-II for 120 and 150 days.
