Wastes from apple processing industries cause environmental pollution, besides a substantial cost in treatment and disposal and represent a loss of valuable feed resource. Utilization of apple pomace as livestock feed is one of the possible alternatives to reduce environmental pollution and overcome the feed deficit especially in the temperate regions. High contents of fermentable carbohydrates, crude fibre and minerals increase its utility for feeding animals. However, low-protein content and nutrient digestibility along with restricted seasonal availability are some of the limitations. Apple pomace can be used as an energy source to replace conventional maize or cereals in the ration of ruminant species.
