A study was carried out to estimate the biochemical profile of allantoic fluid during different stages of gestation in Gaddi sheep. Allantoic fluid (10 ml) was collected from 50 gravid Gaddi sheep uteri, at various stages of gestation. The four stages of gestation (stage-I: 30–60 days; stage-II: 61–90 days; stage-III: 91–120 days and stage-IV: 120 days to full term) were identified based on crown rump length of the fetus. The concentrations of creatinine, albumin, urea, uric acid, total bilirubin and direct bilirubin increased with gestation period while the concentration of glucose and total proteins decreased. The level of cholesterol increased from stage I to stage II and III and then decreased in later stages of gestation. The activities of transaminases (alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase) and alkaline phosphatase were recorded during different stages of gestation in Gaddi sheep.
