Abstract

Nilagiri sheep (n = 140) a prolific fine wool breed of India was screened for the presence of FecXG, FecXI and FecXB mutations in Bone Morphogenetic Protein 15 (BMP15)gene using Polymerase Chain Reaction-Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) technique. The study revealed absence of these mutations in Nilagiri sheep and suggested that these mutations are not responsible for prolificacy in Nilagiri sheep.
