Abstract

Sugarcane press mud (SPM) is an agro-industrial by-product and a good source of protein as well as minerals. An experiment was conducted using 21 Muzaffarnagari male lambs (3–5 months-old, mean body weight 11.70±0.29 kg). The lambs were randomly distributed to three groups of seven each and maintained for a period of 180 days on three dietary treatment groups (SP0-control-concentrate mixture without SPM; SP10-concentrate mixture containing 10% SPM and SP20-concentrate mixture containing 20% SPM) to study blood biochemical and mineral profiles. The intake of concentrate: roughages ratios were 61: 39, 60: 40 and 59: 41 in lambs of SP0, SP10 and SP20 groups, respectively. The results indicated that blood biochemical and mineral profiles were comparable among three treatment groups. It was concluded that SPM can be incorporated up to 20% in the concentrate mixture of lamb's diets.
