Abstract

A study was carried out to detect anthelmintic resistance in Haemonchus contortus at four sheep farms in Kamataka. Nematode eggs from the faeces of sheep were collected and cultured in nutritive media and E. coli to obtain third-stage larvae. The species identification was done by nested PCR and the products were subjected for allele-specific PCR using both two and three primer strategy, which confirmed the existence of resistance to albendazole. The two primer strategy was easy and repeatable as it did not require the amplification of p tubulin gene and nested PCR. The presence of resistant allele in H. contortus was confirmed in all the four sheep farms.
