Abstract

The moderator bands of foetuses were composed of myocardial fibres, connective tissue elements (reticular fibres, collagen fibres and blood vessels) and an outer endothelial covering. Single right moderator band ran obliquely from the right ventricular wall to the interventricular septum, while the branched and thin left moderator band was present towards the apex side of left ventricle and connecting the posteromedial papillary muscle with the interventricular septum. The Periodic Acid Schiff (PAS), Acid mucopolysaccharide (AMPS) and Sudan Black-B reaction was nearly constant in all the three groups, whereas Feulgen, alkaline phosphatase and acid phosphatase activities were increasing with advancement of age.
