Abstract

A study was conducted to estimate the average daily gains (ADG) of 805 Pantja kids of 514 does, sired by 26 bucks of registered farmers under All India Coordinated Research Project on Goats (Pantja Field Unit) during 2015–16. The overall least-squares means of ADG during 0–3 (ADG1), 3–6 (ADG2), 6–9 (ADG3) and 9–12 (ADG4) months of age were 84.21±2.07, 39.93±0.77, 35.77±0.77 and 28.16±1.56 g, respectively. The effect of cluster was significant (P<0.01) for all the four ADGs. Type of birth (P<0.05/0.01) and sex (P<0.01) of kid had significant effect on ADG1, ADG2 and ADG3 The heritability estimates for ADG1, ADG2, ADG3 and ADG4 were 0.39±0.12, 0.17±0.06, 0.13±0.06 and 0.85±0.20, respectively.
