Abstract

An experiment was conducted to study the effect of feeding concentrate mixture containing two levels of palm oil decanter cake (PODC) on nutrient utilization in lambs. Eighteen Nellore Brown male lambs (3 months, 9–12 kg) were randomly divided into three groups of six each and allotted to three dietary treatments (T-1, T-2 and T-3) comprising green super Napier and concentrate mixture (20% crude protein) containing PODC at 0, 10 and 20%, respectively. The inclusion of PODC at higher levels did not affect the digestibility of proximate and cell wall constituents. The body weight gains (kg) and ADG (g/d) were not affected (p>0.05) across the treatments (T-1 to T-3). It was concluded that PODC can be included up to 20% level in the concentrate mixture without any adverse effect on nutrient utilization in lambs.
